Julie

Julie graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2015 with her Master's of Occupational Therapy (MOT). Julie chose to enter occupational therapy to gain knowledge and tools to adapt activities to maximize function and engagement so that individuals can continue to find meaning, purpose, and quality in life. This includes adaptions of activities for elderly individuals who, due to age-related changes, have difficulty completing everyday tasks, as Julie's passion has been to work with the elderly since she can remember!

Since graduating, Julie has worked on Chronic Care at Deer Lodge Centre (DLC) where she has come to develop her expertise in wheelchair prescription, pressure management, positioning, and environmental adaptation, including communication devices. She greatly enjoys working as part of an interdisciplinary team there to provide holistic, client-centered care. The therapeutic rapport she develops with her clients, in turn, provides meaning and purpose to her career.

Julie is also fueled with a passion for mentoring occupational therapy students. She teaches as a sessional instructor at the University of Manitoba in the MOT program. Julie also fulfills the role as a preceptor for occupational therapy students each year to complete fieldwork placement at DLC. For Julie, being a part of each student's journey in realizing their potential and the impact he/she/they can have on a client's life, is deeply rewarding

Now as a member of the Therapy First team, Julie is excited to meet clients in their homes and support efforts to age-in-place!
